This blog article is a supplement to SLB's Cold Winters Created Global Warming, and contains the graphs of temperature records from Hadley Climatic Research Center's hadCRUT3 files that were voluntarily released onto the internet, in late 2009, following the Climategate scandal. These records were supposedly released to show there was nothing to hide and that global warming is indeed occurring. The Cold Winters article shows that there was and is no global warming, but there was selection of 1975 as the starting point for a temperature trend that exploits a statistical quirk of low initial temperatures showing an upward trend in the data. The selection of 1975 coincides with a series of cold winters that skewed the data, nothing more.
These files are for the United States, folder "72" in the data. There are 87 files in the folder, with cities from 42 states. These are posted alphabetically by state, starting from Alabama at the top and ending with Wyoming. One can find a particular state by using a search function. These plots were created by copying the data into Microsoft Excel (TM) spreadsheet, making a chart, and adding a linear least-squares fit trend. The equation of the linear trend line is shown in the upper right on each chart. The wiggly white line is a 12-month moving average of the data. Each chart may be enlarged by clicking on that chart. -- Roger E. Sowell, Esq.
